¿Hay alguna manera de guardar las preferencias de Mac OS X en un archivo shell?

Aquí hay un script parcialmente completado que escribí en agosto de 2016 para mi Mac, publicado aquí como una, bueno, "prueba de concepto" es un poco fuerte, pero es algo con lo que puedes jugar:
